From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the team reach places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to journey toward Timmony in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Questers and Schemers tables.
Viewers can expect finding out which characters will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
